Turley on the Internet

“A free and open forum for communication was the original and perfect design.”

Once the internet broke free of the US military and academia, it became the “… the greatest single advancement in free speech since the printing press.”

It united the world and gained the ire of authoritarian and repressive governments. When Twitter hit the scene in 2007 at SXSW, it came from this part of internet culture and “… was the ultimate expression of those free speech values …”

Over time, the Democratic party, while once a champion of free speech, has become the authoritarian advocate for censorship, and somehow Twitter has become the tool of this speech suppression.

“We do not need companies to protect us from harmful or “misleading” thoughts. The solution to bad speech is more speech, not approved speech.”

Even today, people feel like the concept of freedom is under attack by the authoritarian left.
